This system supports a collaboration with the YMCA of Atlanta and involves over a dozen after-school programs around the city. Children are assigned and wear Fitbits, which allow them to access kiosks located within their after-school program. At the kiosks, children get to set activity goals and interact with virtual pets that promote sustained activity. The current ecosystem is an evolution over the one used for the Mixed Reality Pets project, both in design and functionality, supporting a wider range of activities and incorporating parental involvement through text messaging. The kiosk below was custom designed for the project, supporting touch-screen interaction, and also providing a secure, visually pleasing cabinet for integration at sites.
