VelNet and open tools

Open-source networking and utilities that power the lab's multi-user XR apps, free for anyone to use.

Almost every multi-user experience in the lab runs on VelNet, a lightweight, self-hostable networking system for Unity. A small Rust relay server handles rooms and messages, and the Unity package handles object ownership, synchronized state, remote procedure calls and voice. It is MIT-licensed and available as a Docker image.

We also share VelUtils, a collection of Unity scripts for VR projects, and other packages on the lab’s GitHub organization.
