New NSF award on perception-aware wireless for XR

UGA is part of a new multi-university NSF project, SCOPE-XR, on wireless networks that can keep up with immersive, multi-user XR. Kyle Johnsen is a co-PI.

Shared XR experiences like Drawn Together depend on networks that respond reliably to user motion and changing environments. A new National Science Foundation award, Seeing the Channel: Optimizing Perception-aware Environments for XR (SCOPE-XR), will develop AI-native wireless systems that combine radio measurements with what XR devices perceive, so networks can anticipate what users need.

The project is led at UGA by Haijian Sun, with Kyle Johnsen as a co-PI, alongside UGA colleagues and partner institutions. The team will validate its work in collaborative learning and industrial XR scenarios.
